We have a unique history of success in shaping the built environment.
1955 - First for materials technology:
Established in the 1950s to develop specialist concrete materials for the fledgling British Nuclear Industry
1986 - First for cladding testing:
Became the first company in the UK to carry out full testing of cladding and curtain walling systems. We are founding sponsors of the Centre for Cladding & Windows Technology (CWCT)
1992 - Cathodic Protection on Historic Buildings:
Early steel framed buildings can be subject to “Regents Street Disease”: rusting of the steel frame. The Technology Centre was the first to develop the application of Cathodic Protection (CP), an electro-chemical process which arrests the spread of corrosion.
1995 - Building Information Modelling:
More and more clients are demanding Building Information Modelling (BIM). The Technology Centre was an early adopter of BIM in the mid 1990s and has had input into the development of industry standards.
2011 - Energy Management Systems:
In 2011 the Technology Centre was among the first organisations in the UK to achieve certification to BS EN 16001, which represents the latest best practice in energy management. In the last two years we have reduced our annual carbon footprint by 43%. This has resulted in cumulative savings of 298 Tonnes CO2 and £60,000.
